Jackie Chan, who recently announced that he would donate his entire assets of almost 400 million won, held an interview with MBC Newsdesk on December 14. Chan repeatedly stated that he would donate his all the charity organizations he's created to society and would not leave as so much a spoon when he dies.

Chan, who almost died shooting one of his movies, stated he found happiness through donation. He went onto add that once you become a philanthropist, it's difficult to stop because you worry about what others will think of you. "I have no choice but to do good things because people around me expect me to do so," he commented.

He added that he plans to focus on children's education and rehabilitation. Chan encouraged others to donate by saying, "A few hundred dollars of surgery money can change a child's life." Chan is currently shooting a movie in New Mexico, U.S.A.

Jackie Chan sends USD 10,000 and letter of encouragement to Kim Jang-hun

Singer Kim Jang-hun recently received a letter in Korean from Asian actor Jackie Chan. In the letter, which Kim publicly revealed, Chan wrote, "I heard about a young man who's relentlessly offering his services for the needy. Although small in amount, I wanted to take part in your deed." In addition, Chan wrote, "Most of all, please take care of your health. I hope you will continue to offer your beautiful services to those in need."

Kim stated that Chan's letter and check was like the swallow who came to Heungbu (who was the good-hearted one, unlike his wicked older brother, Nolbu) right after he fell sick at the West Coast Festival. He went to add, "Jackie told me not to reveal it because he was embarrassed, but I decided to do so because I found him so genuine and the letter so cute."
Chan had sent the letter along with a check in the amount of USD10,000 to Kim after he heard about Kim's collapse during the West Coast Festival this past July. At a concert held in Boryeong on December 6, Kim donated the money to the city.

Ilsan Hallyu-wood project commences with plans to invest 280 billion won to develop culture-tourism complex

The project to build Hallyu-wood, the Mecca of Hallyu-based tourism has begun.

On May 29, 2008 on the Hallyu-wood construction site, Gyeonggi-do held the "Hallyu-wood Start Festival", the ground-breaking ceremony for Zone 1, which consists of a theme park and commercial facilities.

Unlike other ceremonies, the event was run like a cultural festival taking into account that Hallyu-wood is a culture-tourism complex. The event consisted of a Hangeul (Korean) fashion show, which showcased more than 20 models, a concert by the Goyang Philharmonic Orchestra, characters shows introducing Korean characters such as Dooly, and performances by singers such as the famous Jewelry.

A wide range of guests participated in the event, including PR ambassadors Jackie Chan and Choi Jiwoo, more than 20 Korean celebrities such as Kim Yun-jin, Kim A-jung, and Big Bang, cultural figures such as director Im Kwon-taek and leading figures in politics and economy. PR ambassadors Jackie Chan and Choi Ji-woo stated they would take the initiative in spreading Hallyu (Korean Wave) worldwide and making Hallyu-wood the Mecca of theme parks for people all over the world.

The Hallyu-wood project is about developing a culture-tourism complex consisting of a theme park, commercial facilities, a residential complex, hotel, contents-support center, EBS Korea Communications Commission broadcasting facilities, etc. on a site covering 994,756m2 in the area of Janghang-dong, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do. Zone 1 will hold a theme park and commercial facilities, Zone 2 will hold a luxury residential complex and hotel, and Zone 3 will hold a contents-support center.

The theme park in Zone 1, where the ground-breaking ceremony was held, won't be like existing amusement parks. It will be built as a city-oriented theme park of an entirely new concept. It will consist of facilities such as the 'Hallyu Studio', where drama and film-making experiences are offered, 'Animasia', a fusion of animation and entertainment facilities, 'Asian Garden' where events and festivals will be held year-round, etc.

The commercial facilities will include shops selling Hallyu merchandise, a Korean art school, a Korean cooking school, a Hallyu museum, a children's educational play facilities, a Korea gallery, a live performance arena, a multiplex cinema, and more.
