On May 29, 2008 on the Hallyu-wood construction site, Gyeonggi-do held the "Hallyu-wood Start Festival", the ground-breaking ceremony for Zone 1, which consists of a theme park and commercial facilities.
Unlike other ceremonies, the event was run like a cultural festival taking into account that Hallyu-wood is a culture-tourism complex. The event consisted of a Hangeul (Korean) fashion show, which showcased more than 20 models, a concert by the Goyang Philharmonic Orchestra, characters shows introducing Korean characters such as Dooly, and performances by singers such as the famous Jewelry.
A wide range of guests participated in the event, including PR ambassadors Jackie Chan and Choi Jiwoo, more than 20 Korean celebrities such as Kim Yun-jin, Kim A-jung, and Big Bang, cultural figures such as director Im Kwon-taek and leading figures in politics and economy. PR ambassadors Jackie Chan and Choi Ji-woo stated they would take the initiative in spreading Hallyu (Korean Wave) worldwide and making Hallyu-wood the Mecca of theme parks for people all over the world.
