Park Ji-sung of Suwon - Manchester United
Gyeonggi-do's world soccer star Park Ji-sung moved to Suwon, Gyeonggi-do in January of 1990 when he was in 2nd grade. While playing on the soccer teams of Suwon Sannam Elementary School and Suwon Seryu Elementary School, he started standing out among his friends. He then went onto Anyong Junior High School in Hwaseong and Suwon Engineering High School, so he considers Suwon as his hometown. During his junior years, Park was awarded the Cha Beumgeun Soccer Award and was chosen to be part of the Olympic team when he was at Myongji University. In 2000, he joined the Japan's Kyoto Purple Sanga and began his career as a professional soccer player. In the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup Games, Park played a leading role in the semi-finals, scoring the final goal in the last match against Portugal. Just 30 months after he went to Europe, Park became Korea's first soccer player to join the Premier League, becoming an iconic soccer figure in Asia.

October 7, 2008 - Park Ji-sung Soccer Center established
Park Ji-sung, who's a member of England's Premier League Manchester United, and Kim Yong-seo, mayor of Suwon, concluded an MOU for the establishment of the Park Ji-sung Soccer Center. Built on a plot measuring 15,658m2 in Mangpo-dong, Suwon, the Park Ji-sung Soccer Center will have two natural-grass soccer fields and one maintenance building. The facility is expected to be completed in the end of 2009.

On May 25, Gyeonggi Provincial Governor, Kim Moon-soo, and Park Ji-sung took a trial run abroad the Pershing 46 at the Korea International Boat Show PR Ambassador event.
May 27, 2005 - Park Ji-sung Rd. opens in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do
In May of 2004, Gyeonggi-do and the city of Suwon spent approximately 30 million won and commenced the Park Ji-sung Road project. A year later, the 1.38km-long and 35m-wide six-lane road was completed, stretching out from the Bethlehem Church in Byeongjeom-eup, Hwaseong and connecting with the three main roads of Yeongtong in Paldal-gu, Suwon. Along the road, about 100,000 trees were planted including zelkova trees, spindle trees, ramblin' roses, and cherry trees. Approximately ten large photos of Park decorate the two rest areas and the 86m-high soundproof wall along the road. The photos show Park's childhood and him scoring goals in the European Champions League and the World Cup Games.


May 27, 2005 - Park Ji-sung commemoration corner at the Suwon World Cup Stadium
Inside the Suwon Soccer Museum, located on the first floor of the Suwon World Cup Stadium, there is a Park Ji-sung Commemoration Corner. There are a variety of Park's personal items displayed, including the uniform and shoes that Park wore at the Tsunami Charity Soccer Event and later donated as well as the shoes that he wore when he scored the first goal (as a Korean) at the UEFA Champions League finals.
