Petite France
I was on the fantastic drive course of the Local Road #363 adjacent to Gyeongchun Highway #46. Following the road billowing around the lake from the Cheongpyeong Dam to Namiseom (Island) appeared an exotic village over the hilltop. With village scenery consisting of unique structures of white tone to harmonize with the surrounding green forest, it was almost as beautiful as a countryside village from the Alps. Called Petit France, this village is a sort of theme park where visitors can experience French culture. The entire village is set to the concept of ‘Little Prince,’ and according to the founding President Han Hong-seop, ‘Flower, stars and the Little Prince’ is Petit France’s catch phrase. Petit France has made a formal license contract with the Saint Exupery Foundation at Lyonnais, France, a foundation of the author of <Little Prince> to provide contents on <Little Prince>.
‘Petit’ means ‘small and pretty’ in French, and this village is located on the hilltop overlooking the beautiful mountain scenery of Homyeongsan (Mt.) and the clear surroundings of Cheongpyeongho (Lake). Building heights were adjusted using natural hills, and every house in the village were arranged to overlook the lake. Such structure disposition and internal decoration of construction materials, rooftop, windows and floor are all French. The gross area becomes 117,357㎡ including nearby promenades, and the construction area reaches 4310㎡ including 16 houses. The village is largely divided into the parking lot and outdoor areas of construction, outdoor studies and exhibition area, and forests where you can walk or train. Among such construction area, a French culture experience facilities, housing facility, exhibition and sales facilities, and an observatory are situated. There are various facilities where you can come in contact with the French culture of life necessities, see the French culture at the Memorial Hall of Antoine-Marie-Roger de Saint-Exupéry, and enjoy the gallery, a bistro, orgel shops and aroma shops, making it highly popular to family-sized tourists.
