Songam Observatory

‘Songam,’ which indicates a pine tree grown from a rock, is the name of the observatory and the alias of President Eom Chun-bo. Approximately 1,000,000㎡(300,000 Pyeong) of Gyemyeongsan (Mt.), where the Songam Observatory is located, is his property. He constructed the Songam Observatory at Brother’s Peak of Gyemyeongsan at 440m above sea level, with ground dimensions of 7441㎡, gross area of 1475㎡, one level down and three stories high. Songam Stars Valley is widely known as the astronomical theme park that unites 3043㎡ of the Songam Observatory gross area, 2198㎡ of the Space Center gross area that is two-stories-high, and the Star House, four-stories-high. Songam’s President Eom Chun-bo hopes that more people would relive their dim memories on stars to become more familiar with stars and the universe. 2 This is the Newton exhibition with its 600mm main telescope co-developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science. You can see stars in broad daylight, and can observe objects viewable during respective seasons, such as nebulas, star clusters and galaxies. Also, the Sky Garden of the Songam Observatory is facilitated with a multi-purpose classroom for 40 people besides its observatory facility, where you can view videos or take classes on the celestials. Additionally, you can enjoy tea and snacks at the romantic café and rooftop plaza, regardless of the weather.
