Gunpo - Figure Skating Star, Kim Yun-a
Figure skating star, Kim Yuna, was born on September 5, 1990 in Gunpo and raised there. Currently a student at Gunpo Suri High School, Kim Yun-a is the first Korean to win in an international figure skating competition. In 2008, she placed second in the ISU Senior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Since winning at a national athletics competition at the age of nine, Kim entered the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in 2006 and ranked top place. The same year, she achieved outstanding results in the senior competition and rose as the new star in the world figure skating arena. Kim has been the PR ambassador for Gyeonggi-do since 2006 and in September of 2007, she was appointed as the PR ambassador for Korea by the Government Information Agency, which no longer exists now.

Kim Yun-a ranked number one in the poll "Who is the figure talked about the most on the Internet in 2008?", which was carried out from December 2 to December 9 by portal site DC Inside (http://www.dcinside.com/, CEO Kim Yu-sik). Out of a total of 5077 votes, Kim received 1504 votes (29.6%).
Kim Yun-a rose to stardom and became the most popular sports celebrity after she won the ISU Grand Prix Series and Finals. Kim is the first Korean to achieve such outstanding results in an international competition. At each competition, Kim has put on full-fledged acting and a stable technical performance, always accompanying the "Coyotes", who are Kim's devoted fans.
